5 tips for cooking more sustainably

Sustainable cooking may sound like a challenge, but often it is easier, and especially tastier, than you think. At Eat2Gather, we believe that good food is not only about taste, but also about being mindful of what nature gives us. Fortunately, you don't have to give up anything: making sustainable choices often makes dishes purer and more surprising.

With these 5 tips, you can take the first steps towards a more sustainable kitchen. Small changes, big impact! And always with taste and enjoyment as a priority.

1. Choose local & seasonal
Seasonal products are a celebration in themselves. They are fresher, more flavorful, and often friendlier to your wallet. Think of asparagus in the spring, strawberries in the summer, or pumpkin in the fall. By cooking locally and seasonally, you not only reduce your ecological footprint but also taste the best the season has to offer. During workshops, our chefs are happy to show you how to put simple and culinary dishes on the table with these ingredients.

2. Use everything
A lot of flavor and nutritional value is lost because we throw away parts of ingredients. It's a shame because you can make surprising dishes from the 'forgotten pieces'. You can make a delicious soup or pesto from broccoli and cauliflower stems. Turn old bread into crispy croutons or a savory bread pudding. This way, your kitchen becomes more creative, and you waste much less. During our cooking workshops, chefs share smart tips to get the most out of your ingredients.

3. Try plant-based
A day without meat doesn't have to be boring at all. On the contrary, plant-based ingredients offer endless possibilities. Think of a fresh seaweed salad, a rich lentil stew, or a creamy mushroom risotto. Plant-based cooking is not only sustainable but also a way to discover new flavors and textures. At Eat2Gather, we let you experience how surprisingly delicious and versatile plant-based cooking can be.

4. Choose sustainable fish & responsible meat (or choose responsibly)
Not all types of fish or meat are equally responsible. Look for labels like MSC or ASC for fish and opt for smaller portions of good quality or organic meat. This way, you contribute to better production conditions and the preservation of biodiversity. Our chefs show you how to create plenty of flavors with less meat or fish.

5. Store smartly
A lot of food is wasted because we don't store it properly. Set your fridge a bit colder, store herbs in a glass of water, or freeze leftovers immediately. With a few handy tricks, food stays good longer, and you throw away less. During workshops, our chefs share practical storage tips that can be directly applied in your own kitchen.

Learning together, enjoying together
Sustainable cooking is not about perfection but about making more conscious choices. Local products, less waste, and more variety on your plate already make a big difference. At Eat2Gather, we are happy to take you into this world during culinary experiences and cooking workshops where good food, fun, and inspiration are always central.
