Fun Food Fact: did you know that France has more cheese varieties than days in the year?
w-eet-jes08/20/2025The French themselves like to say: “A cheese for every day of the year… and much more!” From creamy Brie to spicy Roquefort – there are more than 1,200 official types of cheese. No wonder cheese is served as a full course there.
Each region has its own pride: think of Comté from the Jura, goat cheese from the Loire Valley, or the stinky but beloved Époisses from Burgundy (which apparently is not allowed on French public transport because of the smell!). And did you know that Camembert is traditionally sold in a wooden box to protect its soft interior?
Whether you like mild and creamy or strong and pronounced – in the world of French cheese there is a perfect match for every taste. Bon appétit!
