Cumin seed

What is it? Cumin also belongs to the carrot family and originally comes from the regions around Iran, Syria, and Turkey. The leaves of the plant resemble fennel, the flowers are white or lilac, and the taste is nutty. It is a popular spice that has been used for centuries in Middle Eastern cuisine.
Tip! If you roast the cumin seeds in a frying pan before use, the flavor will be enhanced.
Did you know: Cumin and caraway can be used as substitutes for each other, but they are really two different spices. Caraway is slightly milder in taste.
Recipe: Sprinkle some cumin seeds over your cheese and ham before putting them in the sandwich maker, this way you make a deliciously fragrant ham/cumin cheese toastie.
