Red pepper

Eat 2 gather background

The species Capsicum Annuum (bell pepper, chili pepper) produces different types of fruits, from sweet bell peppers to spicy Spanish peppers. The taste of Spanish peppers can vary in spiciness, depending on where you buy the peppers. The version grown in the Netherlands is, for example, less spicy than the one in Spain. They do well in meat and fish dishes, nasi, chili con carne, and all kinds of sauces. Dried Spanish peppers can be used as a substitute for fresh ones.

Tip! You can store dried peppers for decades. During cooking, they rehydrate and release their spicy flavor into the dish.

Did you know that all types of peppers are green when they grow on the plant? They slowly turn orange and then red due to sun and warmth.

Stamppot on the menu? Try adding a dried pepper during the cooking process of the vegetables. Extra delicious when it's cold outside. The longer you let the pepper cook, the spicier it gets. So you can make it as hot as you want!
