Did you know? Why have people been 'celebrating' with food for thousands of years?
w-eet-jes11/03/2026A birthday without cake. A wedding without dinner. An anniversary without a drink. It feels almost unthinkable.
Yet it's not so strange. For thousands of years, people have used food and drink to mark special moments. From harvest festivals in ancient times to the elaborate banquets of the Romans: eating together was the way to celebrate successes, show gratitude, and strengthen social bonds.
Scientists even think that eating together played an important role in the formation of strong communities. Conversations arise at the table, stories are shared, and memories are made.
Perhaps that is why we still so often celebrate important moments with a good dinner, a festive lunch, or a toast with colleagues.
Because some memories just taste better when you experience them together.
